Description

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

The community is invited to participate in this one-of-a-kind event on Lake Coeur d’Alene. You will tour Lake Coeur d’Alene’s Cougar Bay on the cruise boat Mish-an-Nock, courtesy of Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruise and Captain Carl Fus.

Ospreys are a fish-eating bird of prey native to North Idaho and Lake Coeur d’Alene. They return every spring, often to the same nests with the same mates. Experts on Ospreys and other area wildlife will provide information and answer questions to help attendees learn more about these iconic birds. Mounted bird displays and other exhibits are part of the program.

This may be one of the only places in the world where viewing ospreys in their nests this close up from the deck of a lake cruise boat happens. It is always a treat. Other birds are often seen, including cormorants, varieties of ducks and grebes. Bald eagles can sometimes be spotted in their nests overlooking the protected bay.

Wildlife and lake habitat specialists from the IDAHO DEQ and the Coeur d’Alene Tribe also participate and are available to answer questions and provide information about the Lake Coeur d’Alene and its inhabitants and how it is managed and protected.

The cruise is limited to make the experience safe and enjoyable for everyone and good viewing for all. Reservations are essential. Don’t forget your cameras, sunscreen, binoculars, sunglasses, and sun hats! Coffee, juice, and snacks are available from the onboard no-host service bar.
